About Raikot

Raikot is a municipal council and a city in the Ludhiana district in Punjab. The city is situated about 44 kms in the South direction from the Ludhiana District’s headquarters. Raikot is also a tehsil headquarter. Siloani, Bhani Baringan, Mohalla Kacha Qila, Jalaldiwal and Tajpur are the names of some villages located in the vicinity of Raikot. Raikot city is surrounded by Tehsil Mehal Kalan in the South direction, Tehsil Pakhowal in East, Tehsil Jagraon in North and Tehsil Sudhar in the North direction. History of Raikot

The fortified city of Raikot was established by Rai Ahmad in the year 1648. According to a legend in the year 1705, Raikot’s leader Rai Kalha III offered his hospitality to the founder of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It is also believed that Rai Kalha risked both his family as well as his life to welcome Sri Guru Gobind Ji. In order to show his gratitude and appreciate Rai Katha, Sri Guru Gobind Ji gifted him a wooden “Rehel” and a sword “Ganga Sagar” for his audacity. In the year 1947, the Rai family moved to Pakistan and was escorted by Rai Bahawal Khan, Rai Rashid Khan, Rai Inayat Khan, Rai Nasarullah Khan and Rai Jaffar Khan.
